This diptych was inspired by two medieval artefacts exhibited at The National Museum of Art of Romania - a golden Bible and a golden chalice with delicate lettering carved into it that looked like mysterious hieroglyphs.
For the writing in these paintings, I designed my own alphabet. I scratched the letters in the paint remembering the engraving on the chalice. Like the alphabet, the text is deeply personal.
A good challenge for a decipherer who believes he can crack the code and figure out the writing on these "golden tablets"!
